Democracy, Community and Me

Turn your classroom into a thriving democracy!

Bring democracy to life in your classroom! This hands-on, engaging primary school incursion gives students a front-row seat to how rules, laws, and local government shape our communities.

Students explore the fundamentals of Australian democracy, defining key terms, distinguishing between rules and laws, and learning the roles and responsibilities of the three levels of government.

Students stand for election to our mock classroom council, discovering how preferential voting and redistribution and absolute majorities work.

Students then step into the shoes of Councillors and residents in a lively council meeting role-play, complete with costumes and props! Debating real issues, contributing to discussions, and making key decisions, students see how local laws are created and applied.

This dynamic and immersive incursion aligns with the Victorian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship, and it makes teaching democracy meaningful and memorable. Book now to bring the power of government into your classroom!

Teachers across Victoria are electing this incursion as the clear winner!
