Parliament Experts

From learners to experts, students dive into democracy and parliament!
Get ready for an exciting, hands-on journey into Australian government and democracy! This primary school incursion transforms students into parliament experts as they explore how our country is governed.
Examining Federation, the Australian Constitution, federal referendums, and the Senate, students go beyond the basics to see democracy in action.
Students take part in a mock federal referendum, experiencing how voting works, what a double majority means, and how direct democracy shapes outcomes. They then step into the Senate chamber to debate and review a bill passed by the House of Representatives. Representing major parties, minor parties, and independents, they debate, negotiate and shape policy just like real Senators.
This immersive incursion supports the Victorian Curriculum: Civics and Citizenship, and is the perfect way to extend your students’ understanding of democracy in a fun and meaningful way.
